Americanah, the TV Series

Lupita Nyong'o and Danai Gurira Together

Our favorite couple of the mo’ is the dynamic duo, Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira. The first time we saw these beauties work together was in 2015, when Lupita starred in Danai’s spectacular Broadway play, Eclipsed. Set during the Liberian Civil War in 2003, it’s about a group of women doing whatever they have to do to survive during that horrific time. Lupita got nominated for a Tony for her heartbreaking performance.

Currently they’re both starring in the biggest movie of the year, so far, Black Panther. Danai is the stunning, bald, Wakanda warrior, Okoye, and Lupita is Nakia, the love interest of the cat king himself, T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman). Yes, he froze.

This year, the besties come together again to create a TV mini series based on Americanah, the best selling and National Book Criticis Fiction Award-winning novel by feminist author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. It tells the story of Ifemelu, a young Nigerian woman who moves to New Jersey to study, and the love of her life, Obinze, who is forced to stay home after 9/11. Brad Pitt was already on board as a producer, and David Oyelowo, fresh from A Wrinkle in Time, Stars Wars Rebels, and Gringo, will star alongside Lupita.

Expect cameras to roll soon.
