TV alert: The Bold Type

Behind the scenes of a sexy women's magazine

BY: Claire Connors

Ever wonder what it would be like to work for a women’s magazine that focuses on sex (cough-Cosmo-cough)? The new Freeform series (check local listings), cleverly titled The Bold Type, is a fly-on-the-wall look at the making of a monthly titled Scarlet (get it?) through the eyes of three millennial editors trying to claw their way up the masthead any way they can. Based on the real life of former Cosmopolitan Editor-in-Chief, Joanna Coles (who is now the editorial director at Hearst Publishing and producing this show), the series promises lots of gutsy scenes in the boardroom, complete with a bitch-on-heels editor played by the fabulous Melora Hardin (The Office), lusty scenes in the fashion closet—seriously the clothing everyone wears is drool-worthy—and between the sheets of its young stars. This fun, fierce female show kicks off July 11th.
