The Final Season Darkly Delivers
The Americans is returning for its sixth and final season. For over half a decade, FX‘s Cold War thriller has quietly been one of the best shows on television; it never received the mainstream popularity of Breaking Bad or the pop cultural bombast of Game of Thrones, but The Americans always delivered high-stakes espionage, deep interpersonal drama, and provocative storylines about the complex relationship between Russia and The United States.
For its final batch of episodes, though… The Americans will be quiet no longer.
When a spy thriller enters into its final phase, all bets are off. The Americans had never been afraid to kill off important characters or violently uproot its status quo, but now that the end is near, there’s no telling how this saga is going to end. All we know is that it will likely be a wild, brutal, edgy, and unsettling race to the finish.
Even though they’re duplicitous Russian sleeper agents looking to undermine the integrity of America and are willing to kill anyone who gets in their way, the truth is, we’re gonna miss the effortless charisma and steamy chemistry of stars Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys. Whether they’re making out in the nude or sneaking into top secret facilities and assassinating High Value Targets, they’re simply the best couple on TV – their swan song is not to be missed.
The Americans begins its final season March 28 on FX.
