STEAMY STREAMING

What To Watch In April, Including Game Of Thrones

BY: Georgia Davis

April is here, and so is a slew of streaming options. HBO will bring Crazy Rich Asians, but everyone is more focused on a little show called Game of Thrones. Yes, the final season of the epic show will premiere April 14 and run for six weeks. It’s the event of the year, but there are other options to stream. Here’s what you should watch in April:

GAME OF THRONES

No, duh. If you haven’t watched Game of Thrones, what are you doing with your life? Make it a priority to watch all seven seasons before April 14 — that is if you can actually do it. If you’re not new to the series, you know the importance of the upcoming season. The Starks might have to fight a two-front war against the Lannisters and the White Walkers. Who will make it out of the Game of Thrones alive? Well, you’ll just have to watch to find out.

CRAZY RICH ASIANS

Crazy Rich Asians was easily the best romantic comedy of 2018. It was monumental as it was the first film to feature an Asian-led cast since 1993’s Joy Luck Club. The film is a vibrant look into an elite family, but it has the right dose of comedy (mostly provided by comedian Awkwafina). The fashion is as equally great as the film, and it will have you rooting for Constance Wu and Henry Golding’s characters (even if you want Golding to yourself).

SOMEONE GREAT

Netflix has been breaking the mold of conventional romantic comedy. The company did it with Set It Up and To All The Boys I Loved Before, and it’s likely to do it again with the Gina Rodriguez-led film, Someone Great. With her besties by her side (Pitch Perfect’s Brittany Snow and Rent’s Rosario Dawson), Rodriguez’s character is looking to spend one more night in the The Big Apple before her cross-country move. It’s sure to break your heart and have you rolling with laughter all in its one-hour-and-32-minute duration.

AMERICAN HONEY

When teenager Star — Sasha Lane’s first feature film — joins a traveling magazine sales crew of a whole bunch of misfits, she sets out on a whirlwind of adventures and hard partying. American Honey is an A24 film-festival standout starring Nymphomaniac star Shia LeBeouf. So if you’re looking for something different watch, check this one out on Netflix.

BURNING

Netflix gained this should-have-been-Oscar-nominated film that hails from South Korea. Burning follows Lee-Jong Su (played by Ah-in Yoo) who burns down abandoned greenhouses. A thrilling story unfolds when he reunites with a girl from his childhood. The film is beautifully captured and will make you want to rewatch it over and over again.

A QUIET PLACE

Hulu nabbed John Krasinski’s directorial debut A Quiet Place starring his real-life wife Emily Blunt. The gripping film takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where monsters with sonar hearing kill the world’s remaining survivors. The film was a breakout hit in 2018, and it’s definitely a plus that Hulu got it because it makes it easier to watch as much as you want.
