The FX Network is killing it with hit shows that attract a broad audience. From deconstructions of machismo like Mayans MC to flamboyantly beautiful cultural examinations like Pose, to say nothing of the timeless eccentricities of the gang from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, there’s something for everybody on this network.

For the Provokr reader, the hottest new show on FX is Fosse/Verdon. If neither of those words strike a chord (so to speak) with you, then you’ve got a lot of catching up to do with your American cultural studies. However, whether you’re a newcomer or an expert on the matter, then Fosse/Verdon should be a mesmerizing look at two of the most important artists of their time.

The series stars Sam Rockwell as iconic filmmaker Bob Fosse and Michelle Williams as Gwen Verdon, one of the greatest dancers who ever lived. Their tumultuous relationship is the stuff of legend… Which is probably why it’s so perfect for dramatization on FX! These days, it’s no longer surprising when A-list actors like Rockwell and Williams sign on to a television project; with the rise of four-quadrant blockbusters slowly pushing more niche movies even further down the sidelines, long-form TV miniseries have become prime real estate for prestigious actors to test their mettle for awards season attention. They say we’re living in the golden age of television, and they’re right.

Fosse/Verdon debuts April 9 on FX.
