Kendrick & SZA Rise Up
"All The Stars" Together For Black Panther
Just coming off Grammy Award wins for Damn., rapper Kendrick Lamar just released the highly anticipated soundtrack to Marvel’s Black Panther. While it looks to do something different with the superhero genre, Black Panther: The Album Music from and Inspired By will also make the new superhero movie one of the best in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The lead single from the soundtrack is “All The Stars” featuring singer SZA, who is also coming off a few Grammy Award nominations herself. The music video, directed by Dave Meyers & the little homies, features the same Afrofuturism style that makes Black Panther unique, while it also combines Kendrick Lamar’s personal style of black empowerment and identity.
The song and music video are simply amazing, as Lamar and SZA work together to make it dazzling as a piece of art. It feels like a Kaleidoscope of visual styles that borrows from visual artist Lina Iris Viktor’s work, especially the painting “Constellation I.” However, it’s unclear whether Lamar received permission from Viktor to use her work in the music video.
“Black Panther. Respect to all the artist/producers that allowed me to execute a sound for the soundtrack,” Kendrick Lamar said in a tweet. “The concept of producing and composing a project other than my own has always been ideal. I appreciate the experience love ones. Continue to be great.”
Needless to say, the music video still works as a piece of visual visceral art, while it perfectly compliments the Marvel movie itself. Black Panther is out in theaters everywhere on February 16, while Black Panther: The Album Music from and Inspired By Kendrick Lamar is out now on Spotify and YouTube.
