Her Sexy "Make Me Feel" is a Tribute To Prince

The fourth studio album from Ms. Janelle Monáe doesn’t come out until April, but thankfully the sexy singer/songwriter from Kansas City has dropped the first single from Dirty Computer. “Make Me Feel” is a celebration of sex and desire, while its music video is full of life and energy. It’s the best way possible to lead off her new album.

Directed by Alan Ferguson, the music video for “Make Me Feel” features a flirty and fun time with Monáe’s co-star Tessa Thompson (Thor: Ragnarok, Creed), as it explores the R&B superstar’s bi-sexuality with its naughty bar scenes featuring Monáe courting both men and women. The video is also deeply inspired by the music and visual style of Prince, who collaborated with Janelle Monáe before his untimely death in April 2016.

According to Monáe on BBC Radio 1, the musical pair were working together just “before he passed on to another frequency, and helped me come up with sounds. And I really miss him, you know, it’s hard for me to talk about him. But I do miss him, and his spirit will never leave me.”

Prince’s influence can really be heard in the song’s clever hooks and sweeping soundscape. It’s funk-style guitar work and bouncy basslines are certainly a product of their collaboration together. Janelle Monáe really sells it, as she’s just electrifying and charming in the way she moves and sings.

It’s damn near impossible to not be drawn to her style and grace on “Make Me Feel,” especially with lyrics like, “It’s like I’m powerful with a little bit of tender/An emotional, sexual bender/Mess me up, yeah, but no one does it better/There’s nothin’ better/That’s just the way you make me feel.”

If you can’t tell, I have a huge crush on Janelle Monáe and that’s just the way she “make me feel.” Dirty Computer drops on April 28.
