The Prodigy, An Evil Tale
Taylor Schilling is the Mother of a Bad Seed
Just what we need in the dead of winter: a thriller with enough jump scares in it to keep you up on those long, dark nights. Much like the already hugely hyped Brightburn, the movie that asks the question, what if superman was born evil, The Prodigy tells the tale of an off-the-charts intelligent boy with an inhuman thirst for blood and destruction.
It stars Taylor Schilling, our favorite Litchfield prisoner in Orange Is the New Black, as Sarah, and Canadian actor Peter Mooney as her cute husband John, parents to their beautiful newborn son, Miles. It quickly becomes clear that Miles is special. Very special. As he grows up, he shows signs of great intelligence, earning him the nickname, Little Prodigy. Played by Jackson Robert Scott (last seen in the diabolical thriller, It), Miles begins to get weirder and weirder, ruthlessly killing bugs with his barehands and threatening his family with unthinkable violence.
Exactly who—or what—is this kid and why is he becoming a monster? Even Miles is curious about his internal struggle between good and very bad, asking during bath time, “Mommy, what’s wrong with me?” The film’s producers are hoping people will start guessing the answer to that provocative question via twitter with the hashtag #WhatsWrongWithMiles, creating an internet frenzy before the film debuts. As fans of other demon-child movies like The Omen (1976) and The Exorcist (1973), all we can say is, we’re in!
The Prodigy opens on February 8th.
