Slut in a Good Way

The French Sex Comedy Comes of Age

BY: Claire Connors

God bless the French—or in this case, French-Canadians—and their oh-la-la way of looking at love and sex. Quebecer actress-turned-director Sophie Lorain brings us the provocative Slut in a Good Way, a coming-of-age rom com with a sexy twist. In this gorgeously shot black and white film, we meet three teenaged girls, all in various stages of romance. Charlotte is madly in love with her hot boyfriend until he drops the G-bomb—he’s gay—during sex. Ouch. Heartbroken, she turns to her two best friends, Megan, who doesn’t give a hoot about romance, and Aube, a virgin looking for more than just a roll in the hay.

On a particularly depressing day, the three girls end up wandering through the Toy Depot, a giant warehouse store filled with toys and—quelle surprise!—boys! Lots of handsome, virile boys. After filling out an application, the girls start training with the hottest guys working there and voilá! Charlotte quickly realizes the only way to get over her ex is to get under the next guy she flirts with, cut to a lot of sexual escapades with various willing dudes.

As news of her voracious amorous appetite spreads through the depot, Charlotte becomes the topic of vicious gossip, causing her to worry she may be having too much fun. She asks her friends, “Am I a slut in a bad way?” To which her wise friends respond, “You’re a slut in a good way,” turning the age-old double standard on its head.

The three courageously and hilariously make their way through the teenaged wasteland, proving that women can be the victors in the battle of the sexes. Viva l’amore!

Slut in a Good Way opens March 29th.
