The Lovely Blake Lively

She Shines in the Thriller "A Simple Favor"

BY: Claire Connors

Thirteen years ago, four young women came onto the scene and screen in the teen drama, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Amber Tamblyn (now a fixture in the #metoo movement), America Ferrera (Superstore), Alexis Bledel (The Handmaid’s Tale), and of course, Blake Lively, captured the angst and ecstasy of being a blooming adolescent in their crazy worlds.

In an about-face, Blake showed up in the hugely popular and influential TV series, Gossip Girl playing the sometimes good, sometimes naughty Serena van der Woodsen, the Queen of the Upper East Side. That sexually adventurous character not only put Blake on the acting map, her always-fabulous style put on the fashion map, as well. By the way, Blake styles all of her own looks, not a hired hand. Props to her for always looking perfect on the red carpet.

Speaking of fashionable, in her newest mystery/thriller, A Simple Favor, Blake plays Emily, a fashion editor with a penchant for menswear who suddenly disappears, leaving behind a lot of questions in her wake. Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect) plays her best friend, Stephanie, a mommy vlogger who goes in search for her. Up and comer Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians) is Emily’s husband with Rupert Friend (Homeland) and Linda Cardellini (Bloodline) round out the cast.

With the ridiculously talented and female-friendly director Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters) at the helm, this thriller is sure to have a streak of comic genius as well.

A Simple Favor opens September 14th.
