JESSICA CHASTAIN’S THE 355
Penelope Cruz, Sebastian Stan, Lupita Nyong'o+
As 2021 comes to a close, movie fans have a few things to look forward to this month. Matrix Resurrections and Spider-Man: No Way Home will keep people satisfied for now, but what’s going to be the next major theatrical film? It appears that the movie is going to be The 355. The 355 is about five female spies coming together to stop a terrorist plot, directed by Simon Kinberg.
It has an all-star cast with Sebastian Stan, Jessica Chastain, Fan Bingbing, Lupita Nyong’o, Diane Kruger, and Penélope Cruz. Chastain plays Mason “Mace” Brown, a CIA agent who recruits other international agents to search for a weapon. The number “355” comes from the name of a spy used by George Washington during the American Revolution.
The 355 originated from a pitch made by Jessica Chastain to Simon Kinberg while he was working on Dark Phoenix in 2018. January 15, 2021, was originally the film’s release date, but it was delayed thanks to the global pandemic. The shutdown led to the movie’s delay for an entire year, with its current release date now on January 7, 2022.
January is typically a slow month for movies, so it looks like The 355 has an excellent chance to make an impact in theaters.
