Hot Mama, Charlize Theron

She stars in the mystical movie, Tully

From the creative team that brought us the near-perfect film, Juno, comes another heart-tugger called Tully. Screenwriter Diablo Cody and director Jason Reitman, along their go-to actor, Academy Award-winner Charlize Theron (Young Adult) have created a comedy-drama about the reality of motherhood—hint: it’s really hard and exhausting.

Charlize plays Marlo, the mother of two young, hyperactive kids, plus one non-stop screaming newborn, struggling to do it all—practically on her own. Her useless husband (Ron Livingston) is a no-show during this challenging time. Enter her concerned, and wealthy brother (Mark Duplass), who hires a night nanny named Tully (Mackenzie Davis), a charming lifesaver almost too good to be true.

If you’re thinking this is a modern Mary Poppins, with Tully bringing love and magic to Marlo’s hectic life, you’re not too far off. Of course, this IS a Diablo Cody script so we expect the dialogue to be sharp, smart, and funny with at least a few things going off the rails at some point. But we’re rooting for poor Marlo who really needs some well-deserved chocolate and a hot bath to ease her aches and pains.

Charlize wins many points for shamelessly showing off Marlo’s honest, post-partum body, for which she gained a lot weight. And Mackenzie is well on her way to being a big star, having caught our attention in the wonderful Black Mirror segment, San Junipero, in 2016.

Tully opens April 20th.
