Florence Pugh’s New Beat
She Stars in the AMC Thriller Little Drummer Girl
In her newest TV series, AMC‘s The Little Drummer Girl, Florence Pugh stars as Charlie, an ambitious actress with political views that happen to coincide with a team of Israelis intent on ending a Palestinian network’s murders of Jews across Europe. Based on the novel by John Le Carre, the tense thriller is set in the violent 1970s, when terrorists’ bombs were exploding all over the world. The story follows Charlie’s transformation from a pretty good actor to a believable double agent working for the Palestinians while reporting to the Israelis.
The petite Pugh is perfect in the role, juggling her romantic feelings for her handsome contact (Alexander Skarsgård) and her need to do something right for the world. This isn’t Pugh first TV series. She was also on the first season of the excellent British crime drama, Marcella, playing Cara Thomas, a web-sex worker for hire.
She followed that with the romantic—make that sexy—drama, Lady Macbeth, playing a young bride with a barely-there husband, who sheds all of her laced up inhibitions for the stableboy on her property. Let’s just say that doesn’t end well. She does gets a happy ending in the role of the other Scottish Queen in Netflix‘s historic drama Outlaw King, opposite Chris Pine as Robert Bruce, her man who would be King, come hell or high water.
But perhaps Pugh’s most anticipated role is that of Amy March, one of the four March sisters in Louise May Alcott‘s beloved novel, Little Women. Adapted and directed by Academy Award-nominee Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird), the film revolves around the sisters’ coming of age after the Civil War. With an all-star cast, including Emma Watson as Meg, Saoirse Ronan as Jo, Laura Dern as Marmee and Meryl Streep as Aunt March, this movie will undoubtedly be at the top of critics lists for 2019. Oh, and let’s not forget who’s starring as Amy’s husband and romantic lead…none other than Timothée Chalamet, currently winning raves for his meth addict role in Beautiful Boy.
The Little Drummer Girl is currently streaming on AMC; Outlaw King can be seen on Netflix now; and Little Women will arrive in theaters on December 25th, 2019.
