The ultimate Hollywood classic, starring Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant

Charade is one of the last great films of Hollywood’s Golden Age. It’s a classic cat-and-mouse story—a suspenseful spy thriller and romantic comedy all in one. Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn star, delivering rapid-fire witty repartee and oozing onscreen chemistry (Walter Matthau and James Coburn also appear as key players). Set in Paris, Charade is full of vintage Hollywood style and sophistication. The film’s opening, set to Henry Mancini’s groovy Academy Award nominated composition, is a masterpiece of mod 60s cool. The plot revolves aroud Hepburn, newly widowed, who discovers that her late husband was murdered for stealing a fortune.  When the rest of his gang comes after her for the loot, intrigue and romance ensue. In 1963, when Charade premiered, Pauline Kael called it the best American film of the year. PROVOKR members can watch this iconic film here, free.
