Benedict Cumberbatch Now

A Current Look at Doctor Strange

If you’ve been missing Benedict Cumberbatch’s oddly handsome face—his sparkly blue-green eyes, those kissable bow-lips!—2018 will more that make up for his relative absence this year with ten film and television projects!

After a brief appearance in the 2017 blockbuster hit, Thor: Ragnarok, his enigmatic Doctor Strange returns with his witchy ways next May in the action thriller, Avengers: Infinity War. He’s in the live-action feature, The Jungle Book playing Shere Khan; Gypsy Boy, about growing up in England’s Romany Gypsy community; and is the perfectly evil voice in How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Up in the air in terms of a release date is The Current War, the electrifying drama about the race for power between Thomas Edison (Cumberbatch) and George Westinghouse (Michael Shannon). A Weinstein production, it was due out in October, but has been put on hold during all of the sexual harassment charges against Harvey. Too bad, because it’s gotten terrific reviews at various film festivals.

He’s currently filming what looks to be an amazing TV series for Showtime, Patrick Melrose, based on the memoir books by Edward St. Aubyn. He plays the abused, drug-addicted Melrose over the course of his crazy life in London, New York, and southern France. It also stars Allison Williams, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Hugo Weaving.

And while the game seems to be over for Holmes in the fabulous TV series Sherlock, but we won’t count him out just yet. You never know when Cumberbatch’s suave sleuth will rear his fetching face.

In the meantime, we’ll just have to be satisfied with watching reruns of Sherlock, 2014’s The Imitation Game, and coming up with clever plays on Benadryl Cabbagepatch’s name.
