4 Teen Tales

Cole Sprouse, Elle Fanning + more young stars

It definitely going to smell like teen spirit in the cineplex in the coming months. From the romantic tearjerker, Five Feet Apart, to the mysterious dramedy, Where’d You Go, Bernadette, there’s something for everyone still young enough at heart to believe in hope, love, and hormones.

Five Feet Apart

Riverdale fans can rejoice: Jughead aka Cole Sprouse is starring in a reboot of Fault in Our Stars. Ok, it’s not really a reboot but if you know the plot of John Green’s fantastic book-turned-film, you get the gist of this heartbreaker. Cole plays Will, a smart, artistic teen with cystic fibrosis who meets and falls in love with Stella (Split’s Haley Lu Richardson), an admitted anal-retentive who also suffers from the terminal illness. Along with their similarly afflicted best friend, Poe (Moises Arias, Ender’s Game), the three learn to enjoy life while waiting to die. One lovely note: the movie was directed by Justin Baldoni, Rafael on Jane the Virgin and the director of the life affirming doc-series My Last Days, about courageous people living with terminal illnesses. Clearly this was a perfect passion project for the talented Baldoni.

Five Feet Apart opens March 15th.

Teen Spirit

We’ve already covered this dramatic musical starring Elle Fanning as Violet, a teenager hoping to snag the golden crown in the Teen Spirit musical competition. But there’s a new, even better trailer for it, so check it out above.

Teen Spirit opens April 5th.

Where’d You Go, Bernadette

The star-studded cast in Where’d You Go, Bernadette automatically raises this bar on this funny family drama. Cate Blanchette stars as Bernadette, an architect and agoraphobic trapped in Seattle with the perfect family: a Microsoft bigshot husband (Billy Crudup, Watchmen) and a brilliant, talented fifteen-year-old daughter, Bee (newcomer Emma Nelson). When Bernadette disappears, Bee searches high and low to figure out where her mother has gone. Look for famous faces like Judy Greer (Ant-Man) and former SNL star, Kristen Wiig in supporting roles.

Where’d You Go, Bernadette opens August 9th.

The Sun is Also a Star

Twelve hours before her family is to be deported, teenaged Natasha (Yaya Shahidi, so good on Grown-ish and Black-ish) meets straight-laced Daniel (Charles Melton, who plays Reggie on Riverdale). The two embark on a day filled with romance, mystery, and fantasy. Will they be able to stay together despite all of their roadblocks?

The Sun is Also a Star opens May 17th.
