The Regrettes: badass

These teen punk rockers are sassy as hell

Take one part Courtney Love, one part Chrissie Hynde, and one part The Go-Gos, and you’ve got The Regrettes, the cutest, coolest bad-ass punk band we’ve heard in a long time. Lead by the adorably blunt 16-year-old Lydia Night—with Genessa Gariano on guitar, Sage Nicole on bass, and Maxx Morando on drums—The Regrettes may still be in high school, but don’t let their tender ages fool you: this fierce feminist act takes no prisoners.

On their single, “Seashore,” off their debut album, Feel Your Feelings Fool!, Night doesn’t mince words about her place in this world. “I’m like nobody else, so you can just go fuck yourself. I do a lot of stupid stuff but don’t act like you’re so tough.”

The video, created by Claire Marie Vogel—veteran music director for work by Tegan and Sara and My Chemical Romance among many others—has Night standing behind a podium on a familiar political stage á la Hillary Clinton, singing a giant Fuck You to, we presume, our current President. Over images of rebellious women throughout history, Joan of Arc, a Salem witch, the suffragettes, the message they sending is best summed up with the lyric, “I’m not a little girl. I’ll kick your ass even in my skirt.” Go, girl, go!
