Swift’s sexy sci-fi

The futuristic video is Taylor-made

While Taylor Swift has yet to release her sixth studio album, Reputation, the pop singer/songwriter has released its second single, “…Ready for It?.” The video for the song, directed by longtime collaborator, Joseph Kahn, places the photogenic singer in an anime dystopian world that resembles sci-fi films like Blade Runner, Tron, Ghost in the Shell, Prometheus, and Ex Machina.

We see Swift slinking through futuristic settings to confront a seemingly nude robotic version of herself in a digital cage, a lá Westworld. The two engage in an escalating battle of sexiness and violence until one remains victorious. It’s only until the end that it’s revealed which is the real Taylor and which is A.I. What a twist!

Speaking of twists, it seems as if Tay-Tay is singing about a past relationship with lyrics like:

Some boys are tryin’ too hard, he don’t try at all though
Younger than my exes, but he act like such a man, so
I see nothing better, I keep him forever.

Could this song be about Tom Hiddleston and her new beau, actor Joe Alwyn? Here are some clues, in case you’re wondering…and we know you are!

Of course, this could all just be a clever way to announce the release date of Reputation, which was revealed at the same time as the music video. Get it? “…Ready for It?” Hopefully, the new album will live up to the hype.

Reputation drops on November 10.
