St. Vincent slices up LA

Knifestyles of the rich in "Los Ageless"

St. Vincent released the music video for “Los Ageless,” the second single from her fifth studio album Masseduction. While the first single “New York” was a soulful ballad about the end of a relationship, “Los Ageless” is a glossy electronic dance track with St. Vincent’s punchy guitar work and trademark fierceness and confidence.

The title of the song is a play on the words “Los Angeles,” where people can go to become“ageless.” The eye-popping  music video, directed by Willo Perron, features garish colors with provocative imagery of the so-called “healthy” lifestyle so prevalent in L.A., especially parodying plastic surgery, yoga classes, and beauty salons, with hints of playfulness, the grotesque, and the oh-so fashionable.

Interestingly, St. Vincent, whose real name is Annie Clark, has released two polar opposite singles with “New York” and “Los Ageless,” in terms of tone and subject matter. One is more heartfelt and emotionally deep, while the other is a biting satire on vanity. What else does Masseduction have to offer? We’ll find out when it drops on October 13, while St. Vincent will also go on a North American tour starting at the Fillmore in Detroit on November 14.
