Jennifer Lawrence, now

The Oscar winner takes on a truly terrifying role

Darren Aronofsky has shocked and intrigued audiences with movies like The Wrestler, Black Swan, and The Fountain, among others. His latest movie, Mother!, is shrouded in mystery, but we’re eager, if not exactly ready, to dive in and see what Aronofsky has prepared for us.

While the plot of the film is an enigma, its four lead stars are more than enough to guarantee we’ll be there on opening night. Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer play a strange couple who crash the gorgeous mansion “hideaway” of Javier Bardem his own much-younger wife, played by Jennifer Lawrence, known to audiences worldwide as one of the biggest movie stars on the planet.

Lawrence quickly went from a sitcom actor (on The Bill Engvall Show) to an A-List star. In the X-Men movies, she plays sexy rogue Mystique, a younger version of the character made famous by Rebecca Romijn back in the original 2000 X-Men film. Lawrence’s charisma and grace helped turn The Hunger Games into a global sensation, with the four movies in the “teenage anarchist revolution” saga bringing in a collective $2.9 billion dollars at the worldwide box office.

In addition to her performances in those big tentpoles, J.Law also takes the time to star in acclaimed dramas. She’s been nominated for four Academy Awards: for Winter’s Bone, Silver Linings Playbook (she won that one!), American Hustle, and Joy, the latter three all being directed by auteur filmmaker David O. Russell.

Like we said, Mother! is a mysterious flick, and the trailer, above, gives us some seriously creepy vibes. But really, that doesn’t matter. The hard truth is, we’d see J.Law in anything. And if it’s a vaguely erotic horror thriller co-starring Michelle Pfeiffer, then that’s just icing on the cake.

Of course, we’ll probably sing a different tune once we emerge from what’s sure to be a gauntlet of psychological terror and disturbing imagery. It is an Aronofsky horror film, after all!
